James Suckling was born in Los Angeles, California, on September 29, 1958. He studied political sciences and journalism and at present he is worldwide known as wine and cigar critic due to his important career.
James worked as Senior Editor and European Bureau Chief of Wine Spectator. When he started working for this famous magazine, he had his own page with only 800 subscribers. In 2010 James Suckling abandoned the mentioned company as well as the well-known Cigar Aficionado magazine where he also worked for, in order to start working in his own web page: JamesSuckling.com.
Together with a reduced number of coworkers, he immediately began to taste wines from all over the world rating them according to his own criteria, paying special attention to the winegrowing regions he knew best: Burdeaux, Italy and Porto.
Due to the experience acquired from tasting more than 4000 bottles per year when he worked for Wine Spectator, Suckling began to put into practice the 100-Point Scale which he was so much familiarized.
He only writes about wines he awards more than 90 points. He gives 100 points to all those great wines which harmoniously combine all the imaginable virtues together.
James Suckling and his collaborators are focused on the great wines from around the world including Italy, Bordeaux, Champagne, Australia, New Zeeland, California, Argentina and Chile.
In 2022, James tasted wines from our winery. This is his feedback:
IV Generation Gran Corte 2019
"This is quite mineral with hot stones, ripe blueberries, and scented violets. Rich and concentrated with sweet fruit, yet it remains pretty. A mouthful of dusty tannins goes well with the richness. Long and silky. Drink or hold."
IV Generation Gran Malbec 2019
"Dark plums, cherries, dried herbs, tobacco leaves, and cigar box on the nose. Full-bodied with ripe, chewy tannins.
Generous and plush with dark fruit and dark-chocolate character. Serious and big wine. Long Finish. Drink from 2023."
Particular Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
"Notes of dark cherries, wild berries, violets, and dry earth. Toasted hazelnuts, vanilla, and grilled herbs too. Full-bodied with fine-grained tannins and a fleshy texture. Lots of flavors. Supple, textured, and lengthy finish. Drink or hold."
Particular Malbec 2019
"Black fruit, cooked berries, mocha, mushrooms, and baking spices on the nose. It's full-bodied with creamy tannins.
Mellowed with well-integrated fruit and earthier, mushroom notes, evolving to a delicious, spicy finish. Drink or hold."
Particular Merlot 2019
"Fine toast delivers cocoa beans and some sweet spice to the blackberry and redcurrant fruit, with a touch of black olives, too. A medium-to-full-bodied red, laden with creamy tannins. Quite long, too. Drink now."
Gran Famiglia Corte 2019
"Notes of mulberries, dark plums, chocolate, toasted hazelnuts, and baking spices. Full-bodied with fine tannins. Fruity and layered with a rich, flavorful finish. Malbec, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. Drink or hold."
Particular Cabernet Franc 2019
"Plush, chocolatey oak is woven into the ripe cassis, berry, and savory, sweet-tobacco notes. A hint of pecan nut, too. This is rich, round, and smoothly delivered on the palate, underscoring the opulence and the richness of Cabernet Franc in Mendoza. Drink now."
Famiglia Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
"Notes of blackcurrants and blackberries with hints of spices, walnut, and leaves. Medium-to full-bodied with firm tannins and a polished texture. Juicy and savory fruit profile with a medium finish. Drink or hold."
